I am a big movie fan. The films of today just truly do not seem to hold a candle to those of the past. Now I am not saying all "old" movies are great. Films from the past 30 years can already be considered classics. Such as The Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Scaerface, Goodfella's, The Breakfast Club etc.
I just feel that back in the day movies were made to entertain and interestingly enough they gave a lesson now and then. The stars of those films were also very important to them. Humphrey Bogart is one that I have rediscovered in the last few years. His films are those that I love to watch and never get tired of. Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, The Cain Mutiny, The African Queen to name a few. His work has lasted more then six decades. I saw he was on the cover of the December issue of Turner Classic Movies. I wanted to draw it the second I saw it. There are those times when I just have to put something down on paper weather it is just and image in my mind or in this case when I just want to copy one.
It was great fun sketching this piece and I intend on doing more, perhaps a series of old movie stars.
